Xian and I concluded that we like the chart toppers... your Britney Spears, Beyonce and your Mariah Carey and despite our age (a very grand 23 I say), we are not afraid to say it out loud.
When I see people in their late 20s to 30s grooving to hits like " dancing queen", I always thought it's because these are songs in their era and hence, there's a great sense of nostalgia there, amongst all that smoke and alcohol. And another very practical reason why they are not that into Missy Eliot and Usher could be simply because they work in an office. I think people working in an office stop listening to radio, or drastically decrease their listening time when compared to school days and this is especially true in the earlier part of your career cox later on, after you can afford a car, you can cruise home to your favourite radio station.
That brings me to the next possibility - choice of station. Guess people stop picking Perfect 10 or Power 98 and from my avid listening, these are the only 2 stations that brings you the latest.
And why do people stop choosing them? Perhaps the marketing strategies and segmentation of the stations have worked so well that once your age falls out of the range, you feel like you have to fit in better somewhere else.
Some may suggest that it's probably a maturing of taste that have resulted in this but I beg to differ. I feel that there's nothing more glamourous or matured about jazz and old songs than your teeny poppy songs. It's all a matter of preference, and one probably needs a mixture of all genres to fit your moods and feelings.
[note that I am a big jazz fan and I used to be an avid 90.5 listener so I got nothing against old school)
Anyway, heard of the jazz song "It's so darn hot" ? Exactly how I am feeling now. Hope oil prices will stop going up or one day we all have to live without aircon and we can jolly roast in our 35 degrees celcius oven. Hee, this also reminded me of a political joke on LKY and air con in Talkingcock.com.
Currently listening to:
1) Lonely - Akon
2) A love that will last - Renee Olstead
3) Mockingbird - Eminem
4) Je Cherche Un Homme - Eartha Kitt
