People get married for different reasons. SOme do it cos they're lonely and desperate, some so they can have sex for free and then, there are others who want a clean house.
Of course, there are a select few (like my fren below) who tie the knot for more legitimate reasons, for example, the L word, Love.
Love is a drug. You try it once, it gives you a high that makes you feel so good, you decide to go back for more. You give it a second go , and then soon enough, you realise you're hoooked. You can't live without him/her. ANd when that significant other goes away, the withdrawal symptoms set in so bad until sometimes you'd wished you'll never had it in the first place.
WHy do girls have diamonds as best frens but men have dogs as best frens?
If girls have diamonds as best frens, and guys give girls diamond rings when they propose, does it mean that a girl has to give a guy a dog if she wanted to propose?

People! You have an Engaged Fren!
hahaha....
I Guess that would be me :) heee.... Edward proposed when he brought me to Bintan for a weekend trip... heh, and yes, there is a diamond ring involved (although it is only .16 carat). Not wearing it now tho, coz that goon bought the ring in size 15 (note: Wanqing's left middle finger is a size 11) so it is still making its rounds at the jeweller's for alteration. I wanted to tell you gals in person on Sat at the outing, but couldn't make it in the end so decided to post it here first before it becomes stale news. *grinz*
Poor Ed tho - brought the ring home and the unanimous female response (ie. mother + second sis + third sis ) was "WAH how come diamond so small?????" Having the ever practical boyfriend (now fiance) does have its downside I guess... tsk tsk.
And I am starting work this Wed at OUB Building, exam and class of honours results coming out tomorrow *sheesh* So I am more available to meet up in town after work now! (ok this reasoning may sound warped on a certain level)
Chun - can't wait to see your photos!!! heh.... oh I loved Yellowstone - think it is even better than Yosemites. The time i went, there would be huge jams on the hillside roads at Yellowstone just coz there is some animal spotted along the slope.
Niagra Falls is a darling I agree!!! But I heard it is even more beautiful from the Canadian border. :) Pity I didn't get to see it from there.
Oh, and did you try Krispy Creme?????? Ed swears by the glazed dounuts they sell.... like the M&M commercials you know - melts in your mouth??? no?
hahaha... looking forward to our next outing! haven't clubbed in a long while man... starting to miss it.
yeah... you all take care in the meantime K?
Love ya lots!

Hey girls
I'm writing this in great fear cox this big ant-like insect (that we see on rainy days) is hovering under the lamp above me.
Anyway, I've just started work this week so I've been quite quiet around here. Okie...my sis's bf just saved me from the creepy flylie.
Work's good so far as I am still on training and going around departments to get an overview of the business. Lots of things to see and I'm really excited about going into the assignment proper. I'm quite inspired by the mgt there so far, not much bureacracy and lots of action....exciting...
Update you guys somemore... gotta go cox yet another giant antfly is here again... argh!

Tears
I disliked people who cry.
Hence I didn't like my crybaby sister.
Crying is for weak people,
People who can't win a fight otherwise.
Crying is a sign of weakness,
that's why boys don't cry.
As I grow older,
crying seems more complex than ever.
People cry when they are touched,
when they are scolded,
when they fall,
when it hurts.
People also cry during sad movies,
during farewells,
during weddings,
during sentimental occasions.
Maybe crying is just a way of releasing that tension,
the same one that threatens to drive you crazy.
But if so, why does the heart hurt so much,
As if it's breaking?
Is it also true that once you break the barrier of crying,
you will never be able to get back on the other side again?
Do you become stronger with this ability to experience life's other extreme,
or do you become weaker as you let your feelings show?
I find it hard to dislike crying now,
When I don't understand it very well,
When I find myself sniffing over a touching tale,
When I let my tears blur my eyes wantonly.

Romanticism
An exciting and mysterious quality (as of a heroic time or adventure).
Definition by dictionary.com
Or is it better defined by unexpected bouquets of flowers and millions of “I love you”s?
Or simply something that makes your heart go boom boom boom?
Hmm…it cannot be so clear cut. Otherwise, why would men still be baffled by what women want 90% of the time?
Most women want their share of romance and fairytale for their grandchildren. If you are not one by nature, you will become one of these after getting enough dosage of Hollywood movies or Sweet Valley novels. To see what I mean, just observe your mum’s expression whenever your dad comes up with a nice surprise or does something really sweet. Or see how her face drops when your dad dismisses your idea of a romantic escapade for the two of them.
I am a sucker for romance. I like its mysterious quality and its exciting tingle. I like the way it makes me feel special, unique and very loved. Not to mention how it makes one day different from all the days. So if I could buy romance in packets off the shelf, what would I choose?
My trolley
Surprise candlelight dinners
Personal attempts at whipping up that feast
Serenades
Slow dances
Stargazing
Your bouquets of flowers cox you know they make my day
Your appearances at the most unexpected moments cox you know I like surprises
Your letters and notes to me cox you know I like to receive them
Your bringing me to new places cox you know I like adventures
Your planning of special arrangements cox you know I like to be pampered.
Your doing of cross-stitches even if it’s a most girly thing to do
Your drawing of a card even if it looks like the craft of a kid
Your enrolling for dance lessons even if your right foot trips on the left everytime
Your running to buy me a pad even if it’s most embarrassing
Your speaking to me over the phone till I fall asleep even if I am dead drunk and can’t hear you

So darn hot
Xian and I concluded that we like the chart toppers... your Britney Spears, Beyonce and your Mariah Carey and despite our age (a very grand 23 I say), we are not afraid to say it out loud.
When I see people in their late 20s to 30s grooving to hits like " dancing queen", I always thought it's because these are songs in their era and hence, there's a great sense of nostalgia there, amongst all that smoke and alcohol. And another very practical reason why they are not that into Missy Eliot and Usher could be simply because they work in an office. I think people working in an office stop listening to radio, or drastically decrease their listening time when compared to school days and this is especially true in the earlier part of your career cox later on, after you can afford a car, you can cruise home to your favourite radio station.
That brings me to the next possibility - choice of station. Guess people stop picking Perfect 10 or Power 98 and from my avid listening, these are the only 2 stations that brings you the latest.
And why do people stop choosing them? Perhaps the marketing strategies and segmentation of the stations have worked so well that once your age falls out of the range, you feel like you have to fit in better somewhere else.
Some may suggest that it's probably a maturing of taste that have resulted in this but I beg to differ. I feel that there's nothing more glamourous or matured about jazz and old songs than your teeny poppy songs. It's all a matter of preference, and one probably needs a mixture of all genres to fit your moods and feelings.
[note that I am a big jazz fan and I used to be an avid 90.5 listener so I got nothing against old school)
Anyway, heard of the jazz song "It's so darn hot" ? Exactly how I am feeling now. Hope oil prices will stop going up or one day we all have to live without aircon and we can jolly roast in our 35 degrees celcius oven. Hee, this also reminded me of a political joke on LKY and air con in Talkingcock.com.
Currently listening to:
1) Lonely - Akon
2) A love that will last - Renee Olstead
3) Mockingbird - Eminem
4) Je Cherche Un Homme - Eartha Kitt

A sad new...
I was working late last night when I received a call from my dear boyfriend. Something was wrong with him, a very very sad tone ... unusually quiet. Thinking that it was exams stress again, I tried to cheer him up by "faking" an extremely chirpy voice (I'm also very tired and still working at 9!) But, he remained slient for some time and told me that the father of a common guy friend of ours in HJC had just passed away. I was stunned for a moment, we just visited their family this CNY! He was still well, although on wheel-chair after suffering from a shock tiggered by business failure. Actually, I recalled Shengyong telling me that shortly after Feb, this friend have sent his father to a home because his mother had to go out to work to support the family... which was quite sad, when i think back that they used to live along 6th avenue, but eversince the business failure and his father misfortune, they have to shift to a HDB in Bt Batok and those wealthy days are gone.
This makes me wonder ... sometimes things you have chased all your life, like a big house, expensive car, high-flying career can jolly well vanish one day ... you can never predict when ... at the end, all these material wants might seem very meaningless ... this also serves as a reminder for me to cherish every single day I have and count my blessings...
Tat and I will be going to the wake tonight ... tell u guys more when we meet up.

Let me tell you a secret ..
Fishy is on a hot date tonight !! She promised to blog it but I'm still reminding her here just in case she forgets it like how she forgets about her 2 page essay on why knowledge is not power.
(btw girl, knowledge IS power)
I can't help but sense the eerie resemblance, but it seems like once again, I am not into the most popular Desperate Housewives like how I was not in SATC until it has become old fashion. But generally I prefer fashion cox it's about discovering something new and that is intriguing. And the good thing about fashion is that one can be fashionably old-fashioned as well.
Let's talk about our upcoming outings. If you can trust my topo skills, Sentosa and Safari are on 2 opposite ends of the island. May I propose that we go to the Safari one of these nights and finish it with prata supper at Jalan Kayu cox its along the way and Sentosa one of these days for some serious beaching?
We can consider
a) this Sat for Sentosa and this Sun night for Safari (since mon's hols)
b) this Sat night for Safari and next Sat/Sun for Sentosa
Votes pls!

wine and dine me
i know thurs is my paper... but economics is drviing me soooo sooo insane... so i decide to come on the blog and see if there have been any entertaining stuff...and decide that i too can leave a blog entry... it wun take me five mintues and would allow me to rant on about something none econs...
basically i was studying and eating kong kuan biscuits and it strucked me for a brief moment (note: brief moment only; i was concentrating ok =p), well it struck me how i am a lover of the old fashioned... i mean there is something so nostalgic about the simple packaging of those KK biscuits that make me feel like you have bought them from an old mama shop in the kampung or something like that. (i mean sometimes KK biscuits does seem so out of place along side those funky japanese meji thingys)
yes... i am a sucker for the old world charm... thats why i love pearls, old advertisments (those hand painted ones), big wavy hair, jazz and my fav character in desperate housewife is Bree except for her strange carrot hair that never messes.
remember our debate about old money and new money... think i will go for old money...haha just for the kick of being wined and dined like a lady...forget the bra-burning; i need a man who will open the doors for me, pull out the chair at the resturant and lead gallently in dances (plus point if he knows his tango from his waltz). okay this is from watching kate and leopard two weeks ago on channel 5.

Giving up your seat
1 min , Boon Lay - everyone gets ready by the door and once the train comes to a hail, door opens, GO! I saw an empty blue seat, oh lucky lucky... slotted myself into it and realized that I was sitting beside this not very handsome but cute looking young man ... anyway, someone else caught my attention... flawless skin, long straight dark hair, petite figure, slim legs, A-line skirt... woah pretty girl. She was struggling with 2 plastic bags (those you get from HDB grocery shop) , in them were thick text books ... obviously those were a quite taxing on her skinny arms and she had tried to balance them against a pillar while she coped with her balance. Huh ha... I tried not o make it so obvious that I was staring at her all this while, so I looked away, decided to fish out "Curious incident of the dog in the mid-night" from my bag, then I realized that the cute guy sitting next to me was totally engrossed in the pretty girl too.
"Should I give up my seat for her?" I think that's was on his mind... as he edged towards the brim of the chair... he tried to catch her eye but failed, guess she was too busy with the plastic bags. Feeling a bit embarrassed, (maybe) he sinked back into the seat and pretended to look somewhere else ...
Me, the witness to the whole incident, flipped to page 45, buried my face in the book and started giggling to myself!! I can't help but think how cowardly the guy was!! If I were a guy, that would be the perfect chance for me to pick up such a pretty girl! Is it just something to do with our Singaporean men or it's just too bad that the pretty girl was not an old lady ... then maybe things will be easier?!?!

I wonder ..
As I walked out of my room, I saw Yoda sleeping soundly in his favourite cushion as usual. My Mum always comments on how fortunate his life is.
He wakes up at seven to accompany my mum through her daily washing ritual and awaits his breakfast. After that, he begins his daily tanning session on the washing machine.
When my dad wakes up, yoda will follow him there and here again and acts his cutest, all in an attempt to get more food. After that, he sleeps on his favourite cushion till my mum begins dinner cooking.
He wakes up again. He rubs his face and body around her legs and purrs loudly to request for his share as well. He literally follows her everywhere till he gets his dinner. After that, he watches TV with us or rests on the cable box (when the night is cold). It would not be long before he takes his post-dinner nap. He only wakes up again in the wee hours to try play with my dad. After that, he retires on my parents' bed, at my dad's feet.
I figure he basically sleeps about half his life away. While we humans often ponder (I hope) the meaning of our existence, I really wonder if animals do as well? If Yoda could speak, would he come to the same conclusion as my mum, that he's a really lucky feline or reflect on his meaning of his life and conclude that he is not getting the most of it?
Given a choice, would you rather lead his kind of life? Carefree and loved, without the need to handle any responsibilities at all. Or would you rather try find some meaning in the ratty world out there?

a lovely lovely rainiy day
it seems like ages seems we have a good shower and finally heaven blesses us with a two-hours good long wash... wash, wash, wash away that repressing heat.
this calls for such a celebration and i don on my lovely pink sweater and venture through campus, feeling like I was overseas once again , where the weather is nice and cool and less pimples inducing (yes I am having the most unflattering breakout now =( ) but anyway so there i was walking around in pink and beige, nice feminine assemble, relishing my last few days as an undergraduate....the truth being i was also carrying a heavy, notes-ladden pink file to do some zapping... but that does not yet stop me from enjoying those certain after rain sensations... how would you describe it? the feeling after it has rained, the feeling of the light breeze carassing your face.
Undergraduate, i think there is a certain nice twing when u say that word, embodying fun, youth and parties, the last few years before you embark into the unknown working world.
Uncertainties...
what is so scary about that word? There are some who relish and thrive in it and some who will do not want to even touch it with a yard long stick. Of course these are only two extremes, two polar opposites and most of us reside in between.
Also different ocassions and people will bring out different degrees; there are those who bring u, as a willingly particpant, along their adventure rides and there are those who provide those strong arms for the stability that you crave. But all human need stability albeit to different extent; need constant-ness, routines. Or?
So much for rain inspired rantings... thought it has delved pretty off track...
welcome back dear girls from Japan... (u are back alreadi right?)
oh miss u all and ur funny blog entries...
but of course the former is of greater importance than the latter... while that latter only serves to highlight your gift of words and gab and innate ability to entertain.

Moving Office!
Heya! I'm going to have a new seat soon .. I saw it today, it's just beside the window and it's facing the shaw building and I can see bugis junction ... mmm not bad right? So, our whole team's going to move to the other side of the same floor... and you can that I'm lucky that i'm having a window seat and lots of privacy. And I'm sitting just outside my boss's office, parallel to his, very near him. So, is it good or not?
Well, good in the sense that I get privacy and am nearer to action (daily trading) but... I'm seating just beside miss peahen!!! and of course, away from others.. not much social interaction and I'm a social animal... but when I told other jkps abt that, they said I should count myself lucky coz only senior gets the window seat ;P okie ... fine... dun be too picky, at least I can take off my coat in the afternoon and get a good tan hee hee ... glaring afternoon sun!!

Baby making nation
LIke they say, there's nothing much to do in Singapore during the weekends.
Every monday, the same conversation goes.
"How was your weekend?"
"eh nothing much lah, jus watch movie loh, and walk ard town loh"
Occassionally there will be a
"oh I played tennis and now have muscle ache leh, getting old liao"
For those who crave the sun and sand,
" I suntanned and played beach volleyball. See I so tanned."
And for those who harbour the tiniest of dreams to emulate Tiger woods,
"heh i played golf leh and swung it like a baseball bat"
Anyway, these are perhaps all you can do in singapore, watch movies, shopping( I swear this IS a national past time, judging by how suffocatingly packed the shopping centres are in the weekends.) , and sports.
This got me thinking. Since there IS nothing to do, why is there a baby problem?
Is watching a show better than sex?
Can people be co-erced into making love cos of mere boredem?
Of course, we do know that singaporeans are a pragmatic lot who are aware of that babies are like black holes when it comes to money.
What if we made babies to sell?
Would that be a credible livlihood?
( Can I be jailed for the above statement? OH pls. not the ratten pls)
And so I shall make a politically correct statement:
Of course we Can't make babies to sell. Its callous, selfish and despicable. Damn those who do it.
I'm tired. Forgive me. =)

ever wondered why a blog is called a blog?

is there even a reason?
my sister has this to say:
it acutally started to be web log; a log book of what pple say on the web
and then weblog becomes "WE BLOG"
so there.

a second chance for parson?
I read a book by parson once.
and for some reason i had a very bad impression of it.
thought it was too cliche.
but maybe i just got to give it a second chance .just like u did.

strange feeling
well
second day of freedom from that horrible manifestion of a thesis,( but still with term papers and examinations...
etc etc) and second entry in the blog.
i was staring at my big pile of notes and research and wondering what to do with them. its a very strange feeling after u have worked ur heart out and suddenly you just dun have to think abt it anymore.
I almost died this two weeks, in retrospect, why did those 40 pages matter so much?
guess even when there are more important things in life, there are stuff we just have to do as part of our responsibility. and the end results matter but not as much as how u get there. it was a learning experience for me; glad that its over but also that i went thru it.
